Azul Valverde Limestone

The Azul Valverde is a greyish-blue coloured limestone, presenting some occasional clear spots and relatively uniform background. It is one of the most recognized Portuguese limestones, with an extremely high demand on the international market. It is by far the most relevant Portuguese dark-coloured limestone, also known as Blue Lagos, Blue Valley or Azul Monica.

The Azul Valverde is a blueish grey coloured limestone, with small dispersed clear spots, fine grain and relatively uniform background.

 

Location

The Azul Valverde limestone is explored around the area of Valverde – Alcanede, which is located in the Serra D´Aire e Candeeiros Natural Park, region of Santarém - Portugal.

 

Possible Finishings

Some of the most common types of finishings for this limestone are: polished, which enhances its beautiful dark grey colour; flammed, characterized by its roughness, perfect for exterior flooring; scratched, giving the limestone an appearance of a parallel farmed field.

 

Recommended Use

It is most commonly used in paving with moderate utilization and covering walls. It is also known for its beautiful applications in furniture, masonry, stonework (fireplaces, countertops, etc) or in the well-known portuguese traditional flooring.
