Alternative Limestones
There is a considerable range of limestones being currently extracted and commercialized in Portugal. We highlight on this website the most relevant ones that have gained their place on the international market. However, there are other limestones that are worth presenting due to their quality and appearance, but that have a stronger presence on the national market. While these limestones do not conquer their place on the international market, they will continue to be reference stones on the national market. The limestones we have selected to present you are:
Alpinina
Limestone with a creamy rose background, very hard, with fine grain and rose and redish veinage. It is recommended for paving with intensive use, internal and external cladding. It is very appreciated in interior decoration, particularly in bathrooms. It is extracted around the area of Alburitel - Ourem.
Branco do Mar
Limestone with a white background, soft, with fine grain and uniform background. It is recommended for internal and external paving and cladding, masonry and decoration. It is extracted in the area of Arrimal - Porto de Mós.

Brecha St Antonio
Limestone with greyish and light brownish colour, with golden and cristal spots, medium hardness. It is recommended for paving with moderate use, internal and external cladding, masonry, furniture and decoration. It is extracted in the area of Espinheiro - Porto de Mós.
Brecha Algarve
Limestone with redish colour and some greyish areas, medium hardness and medium grain. It is recommended for paving with moderate use, internal and external cladding, masonry, furniture and decoration. It is extracted in the area of São Brás de Alportel - Faro.
Cabeca de Veada
Limestone with a light beige colour, medium hardness, fine grain and uniform background. It is recommended for paving with moderate use, internal and external cladding, masonry and decoration. It is extracted in the area of Cabeça de Veada - Porto de Mós.
Lioz
Limestone with a beige-yellowish colour, irregular and gross grain, high hardness. It is recommended for paving with medium / intensive use, internal and external cladding, stonework and masonry. It is extracted in the area around Lameiras - Sintra.
